Day 3 at the Alexandra Palace and it’s the 2015 Champion taking on the 2016 losing finalist.
Lisowski let us down yesterday but to lose 6-0 was probably a touch harsh on him. The match was pretty scrappy with the players both getting chances in most frames. There were a couple of memorable points in the match. An incredible snooker from Ding was laid, you can watch here and there was also an epic 20+ minute safety exchange when down to the pink in frame 3.
Ronnie sent Bingham packing in the earlier match and won 6-2 with little fuss. He dropped the first frame but that only seemed to focus him. 2 centuries and 4 more 50+ breaks gave the fans at the Palace something to cheer about.
Today’s Betting Odds, Prediction and Tip
The early match today sees Welshman Mark Williams take on Aussie Neil Robertson. Both players have won the Masters previously with Williams managing two victories to Robertson’s one. We can’t find a value bet in this one but noteworthy is that Robertson’s odds have been steaming over the last 48 hours.
A couple of friends in bookie’s trading rooms have mentioned there have been some sharp customers backing him at Evens and bigger. Bet365 have cut him from Evens to 4/5 which in this type of event is a fair market move.
In today’s 7pm match, Barry Hawkins meets Shaun Murphy. The Hawk’s history in this event makes for poor reading. Knocked out at the first round 6 times with just one deep run where he made the final in 2016. He was put to the sword by Ronnie and lost 10-1.
Murphy on the contrary has played with credit here over the years and has one Masters title on the mantlepiece, he won in 2015 beating Neil Robertson 10-2 in the final. He has been a losing finalist and made the semis on another two occasions.
He also has a fairly solid head-to-head advantage over Barry having won 11 to 6. He’s been quite inconsistent this season though, blowing hot and cold particularly in the first few months. Hawkins has had a similar campaign, failing to put it together on a regular basis.
Murphy will always give chances to his opponents, such is his attacking style. Hawkins can dig in and win the scrappy frames well. I can’t help but thinking this could be a long one and we can make a value bet accordingly.
