The World Grand Prix sponsored by Coral is being held at Cheltenham Racecourse this year and the tournament has started in exciting fashion. Ronnie O’Sullivan is out and there has already been an incredible number of centuries made.
When Ronnie gets knocked out in the first round the Outright Winner market obviously is massively shaken up. Judd Trump is the favourite and rightly so, at the time of writing (1am Wednesday 6th Feb) he is as short as 5/2 (pathetic Ladbrokes) and a best priced 10/3 with several other firms. His Last 16 match will be against Tom Ford and he’s 2/9 for that but it will be tougher in the Quarter Final where he will meet one of Selby, Higgins or Murphy.
We are happier to look elsewhere in the market and take a chance on Ding Junhui at 10/1 with Betway. His last 16 tie is trickier, facing the winner of Bingtao and Gilbert. The quarter-final though looks more winnable against Allen or Carter. He can’t meet Trump till the final and that makes these odds look generous. Ding looked in great nick during his 1st Round match where he slapped in 52, 88 and 126 breaks against the local Jack Lisowski.
