It’s not often that Manchester City are considered to be vulnerable but right now may just be that time. When they had a concertained run of fixtures over Christmas, they wobbled and they’re in the thick of things again at the moment.
During December, City laboured to a League Cup win over Leicester on penalties and then went on to lose on their trip to the same opponents on Boxing Day. In between they were beaten 3-2 at home by none other than this weekend’s opponents – Crystal Palace.
With a deficit against Tottenham to make up in the Champions League in midweek and a further league game against Spurs next weekend it seems inevitable that Guardiola makes changes for Sunday. This potentially gives us the opportunity as punters to capitalise.
Roy Hodgson’s side have shown that they can give anyone a scare on their day. As shown both against Man City and Liverpool this season. While they should be safe from relegation another point or three certainly wouldn’t hurt.
On the goal scoring front there are plenty of options available with City players. As you’d expect, they are dominating the top of the market. That has seen Palace players listed at very appealing prices.
I particularly like the look of Luka Milivojevic as he’s the home side’s leading scorer. He has also has scored first in his last two games and takes penalties. Others have clearly felt the same as the 20/1 that was available has been nibbled at this week. The only downside is that the penalty miss mentioned above was his, the spot kick saved by Ederson.
It is over a month since Manchester City gave anyone a tonking and I don’t expect one to occur here. A 3-2 win over Swansea in the FA Cup has been followed up by 2-0 wins over relegation fodder and a 1-0 v Brighton at Wembley.
11/1 for a home win is tempting but City’s strength in depth means I have a slight preference for the Eagles to get on the scoresheet rather than do the double over the Citizens. As such I’m going for Milivojevic to make amends for last season and back him each way as first goal scorer.
