This week in football there are some season-defining games about to take place across the major European leagues, the Manchester derby being one of the biggest, and football fans and bookies alike will be giving those their full attention. There will be enhanced odds, money back specials and offers galore to try and get us involved if we’re not already.
Meanwhile in the League of Ireland tonight we have table-topping Shamrock Rovers versus Bohemians. Of their 6 home games so far Shamrock have won 5, the 0-0 with Champions Dundalk being the only time they’ve dropped points. Shamrock have opened the scoring in all of those wins, and are the top scorers in the league with a goal difference of +16. Their sole defeat came away to tonight’s opponents, something they’ll be keen to make amends for.
The goals have been spread around the team but in the last few games former Fulham man Sean Kavanagh has opened the scoring twice. Kavanagh apparently took a huge pay cut to go back to Ireland, preferring to play there rather than lurk in the lower divisions in England. It seems that he is a step above this level and his raids down the left have yielded plenty of goals for him and the team since he joined last year.
Although Bohemians don’t concede many they have been beaten on the road by the top teams so far and Shamrock Rovers must certainly be considered one of those now. We were therefore surprised to find that Kavanagh is available to score first at a whopping 28/1 with Boyle Sports and 11/1 at any time. We’ll be placing a small wager on the latter in the hope that this can be our equivalent of an all-weather selling race on Gold Cup day!
