There’s just one month to go in the Premier League and it’s do or die time for a number of players. Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen are favourites to make the O2 next month and it’s up to the rest to try and join them. Wade, Price and Suljovic follow on 14 points each so every leg as well as every game is now crucial with only four places available for finals night. This week’s fixtures are below:
Mensur Suljovic v Michael Smith
Rob Cross v Gerwyn Price
Daryl Gurney v Peter Wright
James Wade v Michael van Gerwen
While every match is an exciting prospect the tie we’re going to concentrate on is Wade against MVG. As mentioned before these are the best players around right now and in our opinion, even when van Gerwen is involved, no player can be too heavy a favourite or outsider against any other. The reality is that the green machine’s opponents are often priced up at big odds that do not reflect their true chances of victory. This week it’s the turn of James Wade.
Wade won two TV titles at the end of last year, has already beaten MVG in this year’s Premier League and this month alone has won three Players Championship titles. He has correctly pointed out several times that many players are beaten before they even take to the stage against van Gerwen. In Game of Thrones parlance the Englishman refuses to ‘bend the knee’. He will go up there and play his game. It doesn’t matter what the crowd does or what MVG does, he will plough on with his mind on what he has to do.
The Dutchman routed Rob Cross last week and picked up a European title at the weekend. However, having failed to win four matches in the Premier League he is under pressure in his quest to keep up his 100% record of finishing in top spot. If you’d opposed van Gerwen every Thursday night this season you’d be well up already. If you haven’t done that then the 5/1 on Wade to win this week represents a chance to take you share.
