Free bets abound these days with the bookies throwing them around to either recruit us or keep us betting with them once they have us. Of course as we don’t get to keep the stake we have to be picky about what we use them for. There’s no point picking a short priced bet as even if we win the returns will be negligible. We therefore like to find a wager with bigger odds to use them for. Something that we half fancy but not quite enough to put our actual hard earned wonga on. Newcastle against Liverpool was a good example of this. The Toon had not lost in 3 and were always going to be up for their last home game – and maybe Rafa’s? – which made them dangerous opponents. Had the referee given a red card and a penalty there’s every chance that Newcastle would have gone on to win that game at a big price.
The pressure now moves on to Pep Guardiola’s men following Liverpool’s win and they face a Leicester side that still has a chance of making Europe, assuming that Man City win the FA Cup. Leicester retain a number of Premier League winners and have won 5 of their 8 league games under Brendan Rodgers with Jamie Vardy scoring nine times during that period.
City will probably be missing Fernandhino and definitely De Bruyne. Leicester should be able to field the same side that spanked Arsenal and we’d imagine that Rodgers wouldn’t be averse to helping out his old side in the title race. We shouldn’t forget that Leicester won the reverse fixture 2-1 on Boxing Day either. Put all those things together and we have a more than reasonable case for backing Leicester with our free bet, especially when odds of 16/1 are generally available.
