We have a potentially interesting day of matches ahead with Scotland involved first followed by Jamaica v Italy and then England v Argentina on prime time national TV. We can gather a lot of information about the tournament as a whole today and England’s chances in particular. Japan will need to beat Scotland given that they face England in the final game and drew 0-0 with Argentina in the first.
The name ‘Argentina’ conjures up images of Maradona or Messi depending on your age group but the women’s team do not have players of that ilk or the history of the men’s national side. The Argentina FA has had little to no interest in the women’s game for years so the fact that they’re even in the World Cup is a triumph. The 0-0 draw against Japan – finalists last time out and winners before that – was essentially a victory for an amateur squad and evokes comparison with the famous Danish victory in the Euros.
That’s not to say this Argentina side can win but once Scotland and Japan have played we’ll have a line of form in this tournament that will need further scrutiny. Should Japan give Scotland a hammering we’d be happy to put a free bet on Argentina to beat England when odds of 30 to 40/1 are lurking on the exchanges. In-tournament form is all we’re going on here as Argentina barely have a ranking due to their years of inactivity.
Yesterday’s matches saw yet another own goal scored, this time a winner for Australia versus Brazil. The Matildas came from 2-0 down to earn the three points whereas China scored a 1-0 win against an entertaining but toothless South Africa side. As the stakes increase and teams make their final pushes for the knockout stages there is plenty of scope for more mistakes and more own goals so we’ll be using the request a bet services of our bookies to price up these markets. In the meantime we’ll take a free bet punt on Argentina if Japan boost their form by putting Scotland to the sword.
