The Women’s World Cup resumes today and we’re now in the knockout stages. Germany have what would appear to be a walkover against Nigeria so the match we’re going to focus on is Australia v Norway.
The Matildas recovered from a last minute defeat against Italy to get the better of Brazil from 2-0 down before beating Jamaica 4-1 in the final group and securing 2nd place. A key reason for this success and Australia’s presence in the second round is Samantha Kerr. Kerr opened the scoring in the Italy game before netting all four goals against Jamaica. She is one of the most pure old school strikers and target women in this tournament and a player to be feared by any opposition.
Norway qualified from France’s group where they lost 2-1 to the hosts before expectedly beating Nigeria. The Norwegians had a tough final game to ensure their place in today’s tie. A penalty either side of half time gave them a 2-0 lead but a 78th minute South Korea goal gave them concern until the final whistle.
Australia have scored 8 goals so far so we’d be surprised if they don’t get on the scoresheet. If they do the most likely source is Kerr so we’re going to back her today. There’s no double delight – hat trick heaven on this game unfortunately but Betfred are the best price for anytime scorer. We’ll therefore use Betfred to back her with 0.5 points each on her as first and anytime scorer.
