Two fixtures today complete the semi-final line-ups as Italy meet Holland and Germany take on Sweden. Friday saw the USA edge past France 2-1 with two goals courtesy of our first goalscorer pick Megan Rapinoe. France rallied late on with a goal on 81 minutes and though they gave it their all they couldn’t manage an equaliser. Rapinoe herself admitted that they didn’t play their best football but they were able to repel the French attack and earn their meeting with England next week.
Holland are favourites to get past Italy this afternoon although they are not the greatest defensively. Italy have been underestimated all tournament but are not quite big enough on the 1×2 market to tempt us in. They’ve conceded plenty themselves but have scored at least twice in every game except the final group stage match where they lost 1-0 to Brazil. By that stage they were already through to the knockout stages and their 5-0 win over Jamaica previously ultimately gave them first place.
Germany and Sweden play the second match with the Scandinavians big outsiders to usurp their opposition. As we’ve written previously the Germans have won every match so far without conceding a goal so Sweden face an uphill struggle here. They played second fiddle to the USA in Group F, losing to the Americans but beating Chile and Thailand. In the last round they beat Canada 1-0, avoiding extra-time due to a missed Canadian penalty.
No bets today as the Italy v Holland game looks a tough one to predict and we’re already on Germany for 0.25 points on the outright market. 9/2 is still available with 888.
