The Top Table – Ronnie O’Sullivan – 22/7/19
Name: Ronnie O’Sullivan
Birthplace: Wordsley, England
Years Professional: 27
Current Ranking: 1st
Ranking Event Successes: A massive 36 ranking event wins including 5 World Championships (2001, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2013)
Notes: Still ranked at number one in the World and definitely the biggest draw for snooker audiences. Will that result in tournament successes in the new season? That is up for speculation and there won’t be many he can win because he plans to play only a select few. It’s always worth taking Ronnie’s comments with a pinch of salt but the one tournament we can expect to see him is the UK Championship. It’s an event he’s won seven times, that’s more than any other player in history. He added the seventh title last season in what was despite winning it, a sub-par performance in the final. There was a big shock at the World Championships too when going out in the first round to amateur James Cahill. That lead Ronnie to say he might not bother with the jewel in snooker’s crown next year. Overall there were a few chinks in the armour last season and although it takes a brave man to bet against O’Sullivan, it might be the best value option.
Green Room Prediction: Do not back him for the World Championships as his participation isn’t even confirmed, he will also unlikely be a value price if he does show up. Laying is a possible if you are comfortable with laying between 4/1 and 5/1 this far out on Matchbook. We would advise betting against him in matches at the Crucible and siding with him in matches at the UK Championship on the handicap as he quite often mauls players there.
