This is a good time in the season for shock results as Norwich City showed yesterday with their magnificent win over Manchester City. Along with that result Newcastle gave Liverpool a scare and Leicester deserved more from their trip to Old Trafford. In Europe PSG and Real Madrid edged close encounters while Bayern Munich and Juventus dropped points away from home.
The first issue the big teams have is the fallout from the international break. Most of these sides are packed with internationals, some players pick up knocks while away and others have to travel long haul to join up with their countrymen. The other distraction is the start of the Europa and Champions Leagues in midweek. A loss or draw in the opening fixture can prove hard to recover from whereas there is plenty of time domestically for dropped points to be recouped. Squad rotation therefore comes into play to and that can lead to vulnerability.
Unfortunately most of the big sides are or were at home this weekend while we prefer a tricky away fixture with good odds on the home side. Norwich qualified as one of those but their injury problems meant we had to leave it alone. The only other candidate is the Portuguese League game between Portimonense and Porto.
Porto are in Europe in midweek and have a number of international players in their squad. Portimonense were one of the best home sides in the league last season and will be one of the tougher teams to visit in their league. Relatively speaking they can be considered a superior side to Norwich City while Porto would be considered inferior to Manchester City. It would of course still be a turn up if the home side won but that is why we’re using a free bet for this. Stranger things have happened and 7/1 is a tidy price to be getting involved with.
