The Dutch FA have continued their policy of helping their club sides in Europe by postponing league games ahead of crucial continental fixtures. As a result PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord are playing catch up during midweek while most of the other teams get a breather. All three are at home but not at any odds that offer decent returns and Feyenoord in particular face difficult opponents in AZ Alkmaar. If the other away sides had showed any signs of life we might take a free bet punt on them but with no form to speak of we’re going to avoid the match odds markets.
As goals look certain we’re going to go for the first goal scorer market again today. Ajax have scored shed loads of goals already and Fortuna Sittard – their opponents today – have conceded a ton already too. In the last few games the man leading from the front for Ajax has been Quincy Promes. He’s scored three goals in four games, opening the scoring on each occasion. That includes the Champions League win against Lille and the Sunday’s visit to PSV – the hardest fixture Ajax will face domestically.
With relatively easy matches today and at the weekend ahead of the return of the Champions League next week it is possible that he’ll be rested but if he starts then he’s the form pick to set the ball rolling. We’re on him at 9/2 each way.
