There have been a number of shocks and near-shocks in European football over the past few days and if things go our way there might be some more in the Champions League tonight.
At the weekend it was hard to miss Bayern Munich being crushed 5-1, a result which the manager paid the full price for. In Portugal, Sporting Lisbon lost at 6/1 outsiders Tondela and Barcelona relinquished a 1-0 lead at Levante in a 3-1 defeat. Bitter rivals Madrid could only muster a 0-0 at home to Betis and Barca followed suit with a 0-0 v Slavia Prague last night. All that and we haven’t yet mentioned how scary Liverpool and Manchester City found things in the Premier League on Saturday.
There are a number of very nicely priced teams playing in the Champions League tonight and unusually they all have things going for them against their supposedly superior opponents. First off we’re looking at Atalanta. They’re the highest scorers in Italy with almost three goals per game and it is almost inconceivable that Man City put out their best team with the group all but won already. The imminent trip to Anfield should be a factor too.
Next we have Red Star Belgrade who drew at home with Napoli in last season’s Champions League and beat Liverpool. Tottenham are all over the place right now and while they hammered Red Star in the first game Spurs have not won away this season. As mentioned Red Star at home are a different proposition entirely so they get our vote too. Moving on to Lokomotiv Moscow – they were leading at Juventus until a Dybala double with ten minutes to go so it’s certainly feasible they can get something from the reverse fixture tonight.
Finally we get to Galatasary’s visit to the Bernabeu. Zidane’s return to Real Madrid has not been the unheralded success that was hoped for and as ever Jose Mourinho waits in the wings in case things get worse. Madrid were comprehensively beaten by PSG and edged past the Turks 1-0 last time, the same scoreline that PSG won by. Madrid only drew with Club Brugge and were recently beaten by 4th from bottom in La Liga Mallorca. Galatasary have not been disgraced in this group and the Spaniards may have half an eye on a tricky looking trip to Eibar this weekend.
All four teams have some of sort of claim tonight and as we don’t want to put all our eggs in one basket we’re backing them all in the multiple below. Given the odds involved we can afford to back them on the double chance market and as long as a couple of them avoid defeat we’ll be ok. If you’re feeling adventurous the win accumulator comes in at around the 3000/1 mark but we’ll be taking the bet below.
