Having survived scares last weekend Liverpool and Manchester City have had contrasting weeks in the build up to this fixture.
Liverpool rotated their squad for a match they had to get something from and they came through unscathed with a victory. Manchester City could afford to lose their tie against Atalanta but Guardiola elected to pick a stronger side and as a result will be missing goalkeeper Ederson, joining the already ruled out David Silva and other long term absentees.
When we backed Liverpool for the league at the start of the season it was because we deemed the title race to be a 50/50 contest at the time. Liverpool at around the 3/1 mark therefore represented tremendous value and we were happy to take advantage of it. Similarly the 17/10 available on a home win looks good value today.
Liverpool don’t have the injury worries that City do and are on an unbelievable run at the moment. They have passed every test so far and should be under less pressure than their opponents due to their already commanding lead in the table. Manchester City, with players out and the comedic Claudio Bravo in goal, have dropped points in some unusual places and simply have to win at Anfield today. That’s something that they haven’t done in a while and with their defensive issues it’s hard to see that changing now.
